Inspiration &Design concept

As usual, the philosophy of Crafactor’s design always base on the meeting of modern local technology and handicrafts. Even though, the difference is the efforts to step further from

a conventional production meanwhile attempts to draw out

the manufacturing capacity in each individual production process that is different among any others. The same happening occurs to the production design of Nirvana d’Oro.

Inspired by the curvilinear on the motifs of Thai artifacts, especially Buddha images, Nirvana D’oro chair was processed by the resin sand mold bronze casting technology. This local technology is regularly used for sculpture casting and is popular among sculptors and brass artisans. By the standard of handicrafts procedures, Niravana d’Oro represents a seating function with a touch of sculpture’s technology. Starting from the first step of wax sculpturing whereby the sand mold will be mixed with resin, and then let dry, the mold will be hardened and ready to be proceeded through the casting. Pouring the melting bronze is another process that requires a skillful workmanship. After all the bronze are molded in parts, all the bronze pieces will be welded and carefully polished right after. Then, apply chemical acid on the colorful area and let dry for a certain period.

The chemical acid will be reacted on the fore surface of

the bronze and gives different effect of colors on the chair’s skin. The whole process of production requires 1,250 working hours of the total 6 crafts masters per piece.

Therefore, Nirvana d’Oro reflects a further development that highly performs a different approach of materials use and technology for local Thai crafts manufacturing.

Production & Technology

Adapting from a legendary lost wax casting technique of traditional Buddha Image, a new process of silicon bronze casting was originated in place. Starting from wax modeling, wax pre-molding, sand and resin molding, casting, welding, shiny hand buffing until the finishing patina, silicon-Bronze are carefully casted in every step to prevent air-bubbles on

the surface. After the first five partings are casted, the craftsmen will assemble the 5 debris in one compound. Then, buffing the bronze surface by hand until the glitter gold is shined.

The whole production process is highly complicated, and that requires true passionate craft masters to work on this state of the art masterpiece.
