The Visionary of his Design Curatorship: Content and Direction

Eggarat first encountered design curation while teaching in the product design undergraduate program at Rangsit University, where he served as the head of the department. He was invited by several Southeast Asian universities and design organizations to give lectures and judge design competitions. One notable activity was a student exhibition in Singapore, organized in conjunction with the International Furniture Singapore event. He encouraged his students to participate in the competition and curated the projects submitted from Thailand. During this time, he explored the roots of Thai design wisdom and integrated it into the exhibition's context to enhance the conceptual ideas of each student.

Later, he became the Chairman of the Industrial Design Society Thailand (IDS) and participated in various exhibitions organized by design-related professional associations. However, the most significant shift toward design curation occurred when he joined the committee of Thailand's leading Design and Objects Association, which receives partial support from the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP). Through this connection, he developed ideas to elevate Thailand's brand identity and promote Thai products on a global scale.

Eggarat's methodology involves conducting research on Thai design wisdom, aligning it with topics relevant to DITP's national creative economic initiatives aimed at enhancing the standard of Thai design. His research on global consumption is synthesized into comprehensive conceptual ideas to attract income from global market channels for Thai manufacturers and creative business owners, fulfilling DITP's official duties. At the same time, each project's Thai design wisdom must correlate with the thematic design direction and concepts he develops for each activity. Storytelling becomes an integral part of his design curatorship, enabling the public to engage with Thai culture through design and art, and fostering a positive perception of Thailand's consumer and lifestyle products.

DITP and the Design and Object Association have provided him with excellent opportunities to initiate numerous creative design events, from Thailand's international trade fairs to hospitality and object events. Notably, he conceptualized the annual Slow Hand Design exhibition in Milan, Italy, which seeks to uncover future opportunities for Thai products on the global stage. This event has been held each year during the Milan International Furniture Fair and Milan International Design Week since 2011. His efforts aim to promote Thailand, ensuring that income is distributed among artisans, craftsmen, and manufacturers of the featured lifestyle products. Many branded products have gained international recognition through their participation in these events.

For the annual Slow Hand Design event during Milan International Design Week (I Salone), Eggarat researches global consumer trends and combines them with local design movements, which can be observed in various public exhibitions. However, the policy for the Slow Hand Design showcase is to include only the winners of the DITP's DeMark competition, which serves as the country's most prestigious platform for promoting design creativity and offers local designers the opportunity to present their products to global markets.
